IOLI is water comes from a natural spring in central Greece, in the foothills of Oiti mountain in what is now a protected national park. It exits the spring naturally - no mechanical pumping is required (dramatic autoplay video of said geyser on the IOLI website is very worth seeing).

Besides the introduction of carbon dioxide gas for carbonation, the water is otherwise unaltered, and contains trace minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium. Perfect for hydration on warm days, and for those who enjoy the flavour of interesting mineral waters. Precise mineral analysis can be read on IOLI’s website.

Greek Mythology & Mineral Water

IOLI is named after Iole, daughter of King Erytus in Greek Mythology. Iole is technically the great granddaughter of Apollo. It’s said that she and Heracles (aka Hercules in Roman parlance) drank water from this spring. (Romantic?)

Heracles attempted to win Iole’s hand in marriage by winning an archery contest - but Heracles was known to have killed his former wife and children so understandably Iole’s father didn’t want to allow her to leave with Heracles. Ultimately Heracles being obsessed with Iole led to his own death. A complex story of violence, desire, and jealousy that you can ponder while sipping on water from this spring.

Corporate Ownership

IOLI was previously owned by Athenian Brewery, who were in turn owned by Heineken. IOLI is now owned by Premia, a greek company that is majority-owned by a Swedish Investment company.

Both companies claim to value ethics, environmental responsibility, and social responsibility, and have set ambitious targets to meet net zero carbon usage across their portfolio by 2030.
