About the brand
Founded in 1615 in the Netherlands in the town known at that time as Grolle. One family owned the brewery until as recently as 2007, when it sold to SABMiller, which in turn was acquired by AB-InBev - during the acquisition, Grolsch was sold off separately to Asahi. (They picked up Peroni in this deal also. Not bad.)
Fun fact, here in Canada, Sleeman Breweries owns the distribution rights to Grolsch - Sleeman is now owned by Sapporo. Sapporo and Asahi operated as a joint venture from 1906 to 1949 at which point they were forced to split.
