Brown Glaze Gaiwan and Cup by Dustin Ryan Yu

The piece of resistance (say it French style).... brown! We had a rich and speckled brown gaiwan in past features from Dustin, and they were among the slowest to sell. Is there no passion for brown? We appreciate that a subtle glaze such as this shines best in-person, where the depth of the hue can really speak. But all the same, we're back again with more and we think this time the world might have caught up. This time the brown has an edge of black to it, like obsidian or rich soil.

This is also the only gaiwan of the collection. It is smaller than some in the past, with a low centre of gravity and a delicate balance in the hand. The exterior glaze is deep and rich, while the interior is a brilliant porcelain white. The lip is slight, and the walls relatively straight. It's... really nice.

The matching cup is taller, with a gentle flair, in the style of oolong "smelling cups". It's foot is ample, and it overall stands proud and stable. The glaze highlights the perfect circularity of it's walls.

These items do not need to be purchased as a set, but they are a perfect match if one is wanting a solo enjoyment set. Their volumes are identical, and with leaf in the gaiwan the cup will perfectly hold a whole steep.
