A nice clean craft pilsner from Bellwoods in Toronto, in partnership with Burial from Asheville, North Carolina - a small city with a pretty happening culinary and drink scene, so we hear.
We aren't 100% sure how these 2 breweries linked up, but perhaps someone at Bellwoods tasted one of Burial's non-alcs and wanted to see what they could do with their powers combined.
The beer they came up with is a super lean, clean and precise pilsner, with a hop note provided by dry hopping with Tettnangerhops, which are aromatic, a little floral, a little spicy. Very refreshing, with more to it than meets the eye.
About Bellwoods Brewery
Founded in 2012 in Toronto, Bellwoods has built a small craft empire in a short span of time. Originally a small brewpub in the heart of the city, brewing (and barrel ageing) now happens at their facility in North York, but they still hold down a couple retail shops in the city.
Not defined by any one style of beer, Bellwoods is known to play around, but with a healthy stack of barrels in rotation they’re often exploring unique ales and interesting sours. That having been said their beers run the gamut, so you can expect to find a crispy lager (their words) or an aromatic IPA in the mix as well.
About Burial Beer
With its founders moving up to Asheville from New Orleans, they brought with them a reverence for life and death, and the idea that life and every experience is fleeting. (Asheville having recently undergone severe flooding in the last few years, I am sure even their life as a business is reflective of the precarity of existence.)
Their beer names & design reflect this, and the beers, which include 'full strength' and non-alc are purportedly full of character and intensity. They love using a range of hops and are not shy to hop assertively. For a brewery that talks about mindfulness, appreciating the moment, and being fully here now, we applaud their decision to embrace non-alc as part of this philosophy. It's a treat to taste a bit of their work.
