These bitters are made in limited batches in Vancouver Island's own up-and-coming wine region of Esquimalt. Rootside's bitters are developed hand in hand with the award-winning vermouths made by their sister project, Esquimalt Wine Co. Every drop is packed with the same complex components that give their aromatized wines the fortitude to be mixed into fine cocktails or sipped on ice as a powerful digestive.
We've selected our favourite bitters from their lineup for their ability to instantly transform soda water into an engaging beverage in its own right. A few shakes will make an aperitif of any drink, including good old unaromatized sparkling water.
Did you ever tag along to the garden centre as a kid? Or sneak through the floral department while your mom is getting misted over by the lettuce? These bitters are equal parts fogged-out cedar forest and freshly cut blooms. That sappy stemmy smell as you drop a bouquet in water. Hard to put your finger on, but really easy to add to anything.
Ingredients: alcohol, water, bay leaf, meadowsweet, orris root, juniper, rosemary, elecampane, licorice root, cinnamon, coriander, sugar, white wine.
